High School Students Gain Tech and Work Skills Through Career-Connected Learning

The Bridgeport Board of Education, in partnership with Youthful Impact and Grow with Google, is celebrating a year of career-connected learning at Fairchild Wheeler Campus. Bridgeport high school students earned Google Career Certificates and CompTIA certifications in cybersecurity, UX design, project management, and other in-demand tech fields, with funding from the Connecticut State Department of Education’s Extended School Hours grant.

Now in its fifth year in Bridgeport, Youthful Impact delivers the program through the JoblineX Career Launchpad, a workforce learning platform that turns classroom learning into evidence employers can verify. Students receive stipends and engage with real-world employers including Sompo, SecReliant, and the Malcolm Pray Achievement Center.

Dr. Royce Avery, Interim Superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools, said:

“This partnership with Youthful Impact gives high school students the opportunity to earn valuable industry-recognized credentials, develop real-world skills, and see themselves in high-demand careers. We look forward to expanding programs like this to more schools across Bridgeport.”
